All classes (grade 1 - 6) are learning a little bit from the vast history and repertoire of West African percussion music. Ask your child about the three sounds produced by the djembe, the symbolism of The Tree (djembe bodies are traditionally made of wood), and the dates of the Mali Empire. They should be able to "say and play" along to the fanga rhythm in the second video below (bass, tone, tone, tone; bass, bass, tone, tone).

Older kids can spot the very natural mistake made in Luke's process of learning from Mr. Malianga. See if you can spot it too!
